A new five-year collaboration has been agreed between The Pirbright Institute and Diamond Light Source that will help our scientists to study viral diseases in greater detail.
Researchers from The Pirbright Institute have been awarded US $5.5 million by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to establish a Livestock Antibody Hub aimed at improving animal and human health globally. The ambitious programme of work will see extensive collaboration between multiple UK research organisations in order to utilise research outcomes in livestock disease and immunology to support human health as part of the ‘One Health’ agenda.
Dr Holly Shelton joined The Pirbright Institute in 2011 and progressed to Group Leader in 2016. Dr Shelton leads the Influenza Viruses group which is working to understand how genetic changes in avian influenza viruses can alter disease severity, ease of transmission and the species they can infect.
