The FAO World Reference Laboratory for foot-and-mouth disease virus (WRLFMD) houses a large collection of characterised viruses which cause vesicular diseases. The vast majority of the collection consists of FMDV isolates, ranging from current outbreaks and going as far back as the 1930s. Other vesicular viruses are also kept, such as swine vesicular disease virus, vesicular exanthema of swine virus, vesicular stomatitis virus and Seneca valley virus.
