Dr Joshua Sealy

Joshua Sealy is a post-doctoral research scientist in the avian influenza viruses group at the Pirbright Institute. He is funded by BBSRC-associated grants and is part of the One Health Poultry Hub. Joshua has experience in molecular biology of avian influenza viruses where he has studied mechanisms of antigenic drift, which has increased our understanding of the multifaceted consequences of “drift” mutations, with additional experience in gathering data on poultry trading behaviours in live bird markets for the purpose of identifying practices associated with avian influenza infection in poultry. He is currently working on methods to drive anti-influenza antibodies to conserved regions of the influenza haemagglutinin protein for subsequent isolation and production of broadly reactive antibodies.

Joshua is collaborating with partners from the One Health Poultry Hub, the Livestock Antibody Hub and various other groups to investigate and tackle viral pathogens of economically important animals. He is open to collaborative partnerships to utilise a variety of methods including investigating molecular interactions by biolayer interferometry, assaying phenotypic consequences of genetic mutations and novel technologies to protect livestock from infectious disease.
