Dr Georgina Limon-Vega

Georgina studied Veterinary Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). After working for few years in veterinary practice, she came to London to undertake a Masters in Veterinary Epidemiology at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC).

Georgina was appointed as a Research Associate in the RVC shortly after completing her Masters. During her time at the RVC she contributed in various projects combining animal welfare, epidemiology and public health in different countries and involving a range of pathogens including:  A. vasorum, E. coli, Echinococcus spp, Eimeria spp, Foot-and-Mouth disease (FMD), Sarcocystis spp and T. gondii, During this time Georgina also completed her PhD on part time basis focussing on the impact of FMD on smallholders in the Andean region and their implications for surveillance.

Thereafter Georgina took up a post-doctoral position at The Pirbright Institute to assess the vaccine efficiency of a novel Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) vaccine as a method to control the reservoir of infection that result in human disease. Georgina also contributed to other projects assessing the socioeconomic impact of animal diseases (FMD, lumpy skin disease, sheep and goat pox) and control measures in Low-Middle Income Countries (LMIC).

Georgina is now an Epidemiologist at the Institute, with an honorary Fellowship at the RVC, forming an integral link between the two organizations. .
