Foot-and-mouth disease: eLearning

This course is designed for laboratory staff responsible for implementing diagnostic techniques. However, the courses also include interesting and informative modules of all aspects of FMDV and will therefore appeal similarly to those with a general interest in the virus pathogenicity and clinical disease, epidemiology and control. This course is available for purchase in English (UK) or French, with online material accessible.

What you need to know

  • Cost: £250 payable via Paypal, Visa or Mastercard (local taxes will be added where applicable).
  • Duration: The course is expected to take eight hours to complete. Once purchased, access to the online material is available for 30 days only.

Learning objectives

The course will provide a thorough understanding of current diagnostic techniques for FMDV. In addition, the course will discuss the clinical and pathological signs associated with FMDV infection, the current distribution and transmission of FMDV, and molecular characterisation of the virus.

10. Further characterisation of FMDV by sequencing 20 minutes 3 questions
11. Further characterisation of FMDV by vaccine matching 30 minutes 6 questions
12. An introduction to quality management 15 minutes 7 questions
13. Biosafety and biosecurity in the FMD laboratory 90 minutes 17 questions

A certificate will be awarded to individuals successfully completing all modules of the course.

About the trainers

The FMDV eLearning training course was produced by experts working within the World Reference Laboratory for FMD (WRLFMD) at The Pirbright Institute. The WRLFMD is responsible for the OIE, FAO and national reference laboratory for FMDV.
