Researchers from The Pirbright Institute have shown that glutamine, a protein building block, is essential for the replication of Marek’s disease virus in chickens. Their study revealed that cells infected with the virus were unable to survive glutamine deprivation, a finding that could be used to develop treatments for the disease.
Pirbright scientists lead Gnatwork training for international scientists on key vector research skills
Between 4-8 November 2019, the Gnatwork trained a group of 28 international early career researchers at Universidade Federal De Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, to develop the essential skills needed to work with three neglected species of insects that transmit diseases; midges, blackflies and sandflies.
A new five-year collaboration has been agreed between The Pirbright Institute and Diamond Light Source that will help our scientists to study viral diseases in greater detail.
