Dr Saeed Farjami

Dr Saeed Farjami earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from The University of Auckland where his research focused on multiple-timescale models in dynamical systems, a mathematical framework that frequently arises in biological applications. Motivated to further investigate the practical implications of such models, he subsequently joined McGill University, where he developed and analysed computational models of the electrical activity of individual cerebellar stellate neurons.

He later moved to the UK, conducting research at University of Surrey and University of Bath where he studied molecular interactions underlying stem cell differentiation, extending concepts beyond Waddington’s epigenetic landscape. His research then continued at University of Exeter, focusing initially on mathematical models of tadpole locomotor networks and subsequently on data-driven approaches including machine learning and advanced data analysis to investigate stress-induced modulation of reproductive function and the functional reorganisation of GABAergic neuronal populations.

Dr Farjami is currently based at The Pirbright Institute where he works on a diverse portfolio of projects spanning multiple biological scales from RNA tertiary structure and cellular stress responses during viral infection to the transmission dynamics of viruses in African buffalo populations.
