Dr Faye Brown
Faye obtained a BSc in Biology, followed by her PhD at the University of Liverpool and The Pirbright Institute. Her thesis investigated the infection and dissemination dynamics of bluetongue virus (BTV) in Culicoides biting midges and the behavioural and environmental factors affecting vector competence.
Faye has experience working on a variety of vectors of medical and veterinary importance. At the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, she contributed to research on insecticide resistance in malaria vectors and later joined the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), where she supported the surveillance of ticks and tick-borne pathogens in the UK.
In 2025, Faye joined The Pirbright Institute as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Vector Ecology Group, where she runs the UK Culicoides Reference Laboratory and supports national surveillance of biting midges.
