Dr Arslan Mehboob
Dr. Arslan is a research scientist specializing in viral immunology and poultry disease diagnostics.
He earned his PhD in Viral Immunology from the Biotechnology Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing China, in 2019, where he developed and characterised recombinant chicken interferons using a silkworm bioreactor platform. From 2020 to 2021, he served as a Research Fellow at the China-UK Joint Centre of Livestock Diseases, Beijing Academy of Agriculture & Forestry Sciences, where he contributed to cross-border research initiatives in avian virology.
Dr. Arslan played a pivotal role in establishing a state-of-the-art viral genomics laboratory in Pakistan, focusing on the detection and molecular characterisation of circulating viral pathogens in both backyard and commercial poultry. He currently serves as a Research Scientist in the Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease Research Group at The Pirbright Institute.
In collaboration with the Antibody Hub - part of a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded initiative - his current research centres on engineering and characterising monoclonal antibodies both in vitro and in vivo. These antibodies have significant potential for the development of next-generation diagnostic tools and for advancing prophylactic strategies against Avian Influenza in poultry.
