Dr Ali Al-Rashed
Ali is a postdoctoral scientist in the Molecular Epidemiology Group, with expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and pathogen genomics.
He completed his PhD at University College London (UCL), where he investigated a potential infectious cause of a kidney disease epidemic affecting agricultural communities in Central America. In earlier projects he employed a wide range of wet-lab and computational techniques - including serology, PCR and metagenomic whole-genome sequencing—to interrogate large biological datasets. Ali is broadly interested in the evolution and dynamics of viruses, and is currently focused on the molecular epidemiology of foot-and-mouth disease virus.
