Dr Shahriar Behboudi

After completing his undergraduate studies, Shahriar was trained as an Immunologist at Uppsala, Sweden and developed and examined the immunogenicity and efficacy of novel nanoparticle vaccines including ISCOMS. As a postdoc at University of Oxford, he investigated the immunogenicity of viral vectors expressing viral, bacterial or parasite antigens targeting professional antigen presenting cells. As a principal investigator at UCL, he set up an independent line of enquiry investigating T cell responses against tumour associated antigens and T cell based immunotherapy in patients with primary liver cancer and pancreatic cancer. Shahriar became interested in comparative immunology and in particular in avian immunology. In 2013, Shahriar was recruited to The Pirbright Institute to set up the Avian Immunology research group, and in 2017 he took up the joint position of Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Immunology, within the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey, and group leader at the Pirbright Institute. Shahriar’s research focuses on exploring host-pathogen interaction, immune evasion and vaccine development.   Dr. Behboudi’s research at The Pirbright Institute focuses on exploring host-pathogen interaction, immune evasion and vaccine development.
